Webinar: Urban3 Decoder Webinar

  • Zoom Online Event (map)

Introducing a new initiative from Strong Towns, Urban3, UNC Asheville and the Racial Justice Coalition of Asheville.

LOCATION: Online Zoom Event | DATE: January 27, 2022 | TIME: 1:00 p.m. EST

Property taxes represent the largest source of public revenue for local governments in Western North Carolina. There are long-lasting inequalities in property tax administration with unfair financial burdens on low-income residents and communities of color. These, then create cascading impacts on housing affordability, gentrification, displacement, household economics, and a driver on health disparities.

To explore these issues, Strong Towns, along with the University of North Carolina Asheville’s Department of Health and Wellness, Urban3, and the Asheville Racial Justice Coalition are partnering on a new initiative called Just Accounting for Health, thanks to a grant from the Dogwood Health Trust. Check out the timeline here

This “Decoder Webinar” will introduce the project. The event is hosted by Strong Towns Program Director, Rachel Quednau, and includes Robert Thomas and Tre Williams of the Racial Justice Coalition; Ori Baber, Ph.D. of Urban3; and Aubri Rote, Ph.D. of UNC Asheville.
