A Toolkit for Creating Better Blocks
One of the featured speakers at our Summit this week is Jason Roberts, the cofounder of Better Block and Chairman of the Board for Better Block Foundation. We're thrilled to have Jason joining us to speak about his work to encourage small-scale, citizen-driven change in towns across the country. To get you pumped for his presentation, we're sharing a video that Better Block Foundation released last year, introducing their new tool, WikiBlock.
According to the Better Block website, the WikiBlock Library is "an open-source toolkit of designs for benches, chairs, planters, stages, bus stops, beer garden fences, and kiosks that can be downloaded for free." These designs can be printed on plywood at any makerspace using a CNC router, then assembled without even needing glue or nails. Pretty dang cool.
Jason Roberts said, in an article on the Better Block website: “We’re trying to lower the barrier to entry on fabrication. We’re realizing the potential for the every man and every woman. Before, it required an architect, a carpenter, renderings, and contractors. At this point, you no longer need all that. You just need your local makerspace.”
