Grant Hamilton
Grant Hamilton is a marketing and communications professional with a journalism background who lives and works in Brandon, Manitoba.
In 2022, he was struck by a car and badly hurt while he and his wife were cycling home after a family dinner at his mom’s. The crash tore the meniscus in his knee, permanently separated his shoulder, and ripped off his pinky finger.
After griping about poor cycling infrastructure in his home town for decades, the crash galvanized Grant into action — he used his public relations and storytelling skills combined with his wry sense of humour to push cycling safety to the forefront of the conversation at City Hall and in the community. A year after the crash, the news headline read: “Lost a pinky, gained a purpose.”
Today, Grant continues to work on the local cycling advocacy group he launched after the crash, sits on the city’s Vision Zero task force, and has engaged with Brandon University researchers and city administration to explore ways to improve active transportation and public space in Brandon.
